totoro forest project

Word is out and the site is up! The Totoro Forest Project is an amazing project and a wonderful looking site...check it out. Here's the description I submitted for the piece I contributed...

The supernatural feel of Totoro and the playful spirit they bring make me reminisce to when I was a child. ‘Imaginary’ friends, excavating my backyard, hide and seek, all of these fun activities were part of my daily routine. Recent news of floods around the world that have devastated peoples lives, interrupted children’s daily routines have deeply saddened me, so I wanted to do a piece where my Totoro are acting as guardians, protectors to these children.

'Hold On' 10x21 Tradigital (pencil, pen, ink and a computer)

Everyone's work looks really great...I can't wait to see it in person. It's been my pleasure.

heads 2

huh?

heads

Remember that 'Head 1' post a while back? A complete failure, I know. I wanted to draw a head a week but I've been busy with doing laundry. I'm jump starting it again though! This time I'll draw a head a week (maybe 2), on their own page, and combine it with the previous one to see if they can get along. I'm excited! Here is the first happy couple...

Here's one of the many plane doodles I did at this years mocca festival in NYC. I got excited about adding a video so here it is. Enjoy. Oh and come by and visit the Out Of Picture booth in San Diego this year and we'll do all kinds of doodling in your books =]

did this in whole foods while the rain was coming down on sunday. plenty of rain, plenty of time to use my brush pen. i'm not sure about the eyes... just a technique i developed while doodling that i find very fulfilling.

el pescado

a little paint test i did, with reference of course...hopefully i can start practicing more and more.

Mocca 08

Here are some pics from last saturday at Mocca in NYC. It was scorching hot but plenty of people still came by and showed their support. Both OOP volumes 1 & 2 sold very well and plenty were signed by a hand full of us who attended.

Yup, it was soo hot that I started seeing speech bubbles.

The crew arriving bright and early...

...and setting up.

We had some curios cats come by before doors opened, while Peter and Lizette sat and waited.

The view.

Jason Sadler signing away.

Nash Dunnigan doing his thing.

Lunch break with some good buds and a man behind a 'censor' curtain...

extra! extra! OOP2 is here!

Just a heads up.... OOP2 hit the shelves yesterday! Pick a copy up for yourself... and maybe one for your pops as well. Anyways, we'll be at Mocca this weekend signing copies (I know, i'm pinching myself) so if you're in the city come on by. Congrats guys and gal!

'Hold On'

A piece I did for an upcoming show... Hope you enjoy! (i'll tell you all about it later)

peanutbuttanjellay

I drew a polar bear on a bike a few posts back and now I'm doing a grizzly on a unicycle...I think my subconscious is telling me to buy a bear suit and join the circus. This one started out as a test and turned into something fun. The happy/sad face was inspired by an SNL skit that made me pee my pants (not really)...so i gave it a shot. I worked larger than usual and used markers to get textures that followed the forms. I posted a detail so you guys and gals can get a closer look. Nos Vemos.

!!!holy moly!!!

I came to my desk the other day and there it was...all shiny and new smelling. Our first copies of OOP2 had arrived! HOLY MOLY...it's surreal to think that not too long ago we were sweating bullets and losing precious sleep. It was all worth it though. I feel blessed to be able to be part of this book...I've learned soo much from the crew. The printing looks really good too. Thanks fellas and gals. Let's do it again!

Horton Hears A Who

The premiere for the movie was held here in NYC last night and it was unreal. Butterflies in my stomach and pleasant surprises through out. It's been an honor to work on this film. Any-who the tickets to the premiere looked soo sweet I wanted to share them with you.....enjoy.

'coach'

A design in the works for a freelance project I'm working on...'if I tolds ya I'd have to kill ya'. Anyways I was playing with the memories of my high school gym teacher who's shorts were too short and calves were bionic.

Happy Holidays!

Hope you all have been having a nice holiday and continue to do so through the new year. I personally can't wait till egg nogg is on the grocery shelf all year long. Here's an idea I have of this character who has tentacles for arms...and flies a capsule shaped space ship...and wears a cool hat...obviously a work in progress. Happy 2008!
