a motorcycle telephone pole riding monkey

A doodle turned sketch turned photoshop while listening to a friend play guitar. His name is Tony Jung and his album comes out in the near future (the sooner the better).

i am stoked!

the real deal

trikes

here's a piece that started as a doodle the other night. i love to draw wheels, vehicles, bikes, and anything with circles. i started with the one in the middle and worked my way back. maybe they're trikes that belong to a trike gang that goes around the neighborhood collecting lemonheads or something....

ps. it's the start of a bigger bicycle project that i want to do. maybe i'll do a piece a week or so and work up a good number of originals to maybe even show, who knows. i'm inspired by bicycle thieves...one of my favorite movies of all time.

Character Design Interview!

I'm really excited about being interviewed this past week by a fella named Randall over at the Character Design Blog. (pinch) ouch! It was a fun and interesting process because some of the questions asked were things I've never really put much thought into. I learned a lot about myself and yeah I still don't know how to write...sorry Mrs. Wolf (High School English Teacher). Check it out if you get a chance and thanks Randall. I had a blast!

One last thing, here are some of my latest that were included in the interview.

'Chica on a bike'

Benefit Auction

Here's a drawing I'm donating to a benefit auction back home in SF. I learned about this cool oppurtunity through a friend and co-worker, Dice. The proceeds will go to an organization named Emergency which helps build hospitals in war torn countries. Besides being a meaningful cause the auction looks like it'll be an amazing show held at the Maverix Studios. Wish I could attend!

Anyways the drawing started as a doodle which turned into a small piece dealing with death and it's.....curiosity. Sort of like a small stranger who comes up to you and says "hello".

It was 1984 and I didn't know the meaning of the word consequences...does any child? Anyways, my childhood best friend and some other kids from the block would position themselves at the intersections and give the thumbs up when it was clear. We went through several big wheels doing that...the plastic tires would scrape down to nothing along with the soles of our shoes. Good times. I would never in my right mind do it again.....but you can if you'd like right here!

recent sketches n' stuff...

i like fish!...(fish study)

it's been raining here...a lot...but i kinda like it.
here's a sketch that hopefully someday i can sculpt.
i just think it would be cool to try and suspend
that cloud above the figure with thin wires or something?

out of picture on the brew!

There's an interesting article on Cartoon Brew about artists working in the animation industry and their creative outlets outside of the 9 to 5. Out of Picture is mentioned in it along with other sweet books. I'm really happy to be a part of the second one and I'm learning a gazillion things as I go along. Storytelling panel to panel is a huge challenge! Here's a sneak peak of a panel in progress...shh, don't tell anyone =]

i like fish...

...and i like to post. wish i could post more often but yadda yadda yadda, you know the deal. anyways jake parker and i dedicated today's lunch hour to drawing what we saw on our way to work in the morning. i really did see this guy and he really did ask for directions...really.

(not really, but that's why i love drawing)

dragon

I apologize for the delay but things are getting pretty busy around here... so please bear with me as I hope to continue to post once a week. Dragons was the challenge last week. Maybe this guy's name is chucho...and maybe he likes balloons...in his size 42 chuck taylors?....yeah! why not. peace.

The Monkey King

Gimme a sec...

...as I redo a few things on this blog. I'll be adding a header and updating the links section. In the meanwhile here's a little test of a future project I want to work on. Nos Vemos!

ghostbuster...

This week's challenge over at work is ghostbusters. Slimer has always had a special place in my heart so this one's for the green guy who can't stop eating garbage. Some of these lines were drawn with a pen imported from Japan. It was a gift from a friend... so I rolled the dice and tried it out. Cheers.

4 arms, 3 eyes, insect wings, arms longer than torso, reptile tail, elephant legs, claws

A buddy of mine (georgy boy) and his buddies (the block forum) were having a little fun with the description above. He invited me to do a monster with 4 arms, 3 eyes, etc, etc, and I couldn't wait to play with the idea of such a creature...so here's what I came up with. Oh, and the elephant leg is it's torso.

Star Wars!!!

Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder Joshua. Here's the leader of the jedi crew, not quite the same as the one on the bss challenge (color was dialed way back), the one they call "yoda".

It finally occured to us over at work that we hadn't done Star Wars for the weekly challenge. Duh...anyways here the sketch I started with and the photoshoped alternative. I wish I could lock myself indoors and paint this one for real. Maybe someday.

n' stuff (title of this blog)

This is the "n' stuff" part of this blog. When I was home over the holidays my mother asked if I could restore a portrait of her and her sisters. I said yes of course (love ya mom). Anyways I thought I would share this because it's close and dear to me. Enjoy. (my mom is first on the left)

catching up

que miras caballero?

last weeks bluesky challenge...evil robots.

Japantown!

Japantown is an amazing place. The one in San Francisco fills me with joy when I visit. When I was back home in SF over the holidays I went by Kinokuniya to replenish my brush pens and to pick up some screentones. These things are a lot of fun! You might ask why not photoshop? Well when I open a sketchbook and I see screentones on an actual drawing or sketch...it blows my mind. It brings charm to the piece. Prehistoric photoshop if you will =]

Le Tomate-Mozzarella-Prosciutto

One of my favorite spots in the east village to grab french toast, eggs benedict, or a 'Tomate-Mozzarella-Prosciutto' sandwich, has also become a good spot to doodle. Check out the cup mat I doodled on while having dinner at Le Gamin...

...and a quick photoshop fix.

a superhero idea....just an idea...

and carry a fan around with him...just to blow his cape around.

Happy Halloween!

rrrraaaaaahhhhhh!!!

Halloween!

We're doing monsters this week at the BlueSky challenge. Classic monsters....the Phantom of the opera by Basil Gogos was always a favorite. He's my inspiration for this.....those eyes and those teeth! Rad.

character line up

these are some characters i'm working on for a side project. a sweet modeler at work asked me if i was interested and i said "ppsshhh....yeah!" Anyways, I'll post more about it once the ball gets rollin'.
